Claudes is a best local secret. Great pies and lots of vegan food. Run by 2 of the nicest guys you will meet. Coconut custard slices are some of the best in nz and the friday doughnuts are 🤌
If you're ever in Te Whanganui-a-Tara, check out Deluxe! They're just tucked in next to the Embassy Theatre; such a lovely little nook with absolutely wonderful people behind the counter.
I forgot about Deluxe! It must have been at least a decade since I last visited but I remember they had gorgeous vegan cupcakes with hot pink icing. Thank you for dredging up that memory, and reminding me to visit next time I'm in town!
Hi Lucinda, when I lived in Edinburgh and worked at the Children's hospital, on Saturday mornings one of us would arrive with morning rolls (known there as 'baps'), and someone would bring eggs and maybe bacon. For morning tea we'd beat up the eggs and cook them in the microwave in the ward staff room, and then enjoy a bap filled with scrambled eggs, and maybe bacon. Yummy!
This sounds absolutely gorgeous. Nothing better than a shared morning tea, even better if it's breakfast baps. Thank you for sharing - I can almost smell the bacon!

Such sweethearts eh! I'll have to plan my next trip to coincide with Friday doughnuts - thanks for the hot tip!

I live down the road and couldn't agree more about Blue Rose!
Great column. Salivated throughout your Otemoti food tour!
